Why the Aluminum Reflector Matters
We use high-purity aluminum reflectors for two reasons. First, they bounce that IR energy exactly where it needs to go. But more importantly, they act as a physical shield. We’ve tweaked the geometry to maximize the heat reflection while creating a sturdy cradle for the lamp. If a tube gives way under high thermal stress, the housing helps keep the fragments from flying everywhere. It’s about containment.
Keeping Things Clean and Stable
Stability is everything. If a lamp vibrates during a high-load cycle, you get quartz-to-metal friction. That leads to tiny cracks, which lead to premature failures. We fix this with dampened supports. No rubbing, no shaking. For those of you who really can’t afford a mistake, we usually suggest a secondary quartz guard tube. Think of it as an insurance policy. If the IR lamp goes, the guard tube catches the mess. You get a “clean failure.” The lamp is gone, but the wafer stays untouched.
The Trade-off (And How to Handle It)
Here’s the honest part: adding reflectors and guard tubes adds thermal mass. You’ll notice a slight lag when you’re ramping up the heat compared to using a bare lamp. It’s not instant. You’ll probably need to tweak your PID settings to get the timing right. But honestly? A few extra seconds of ramp-up time is a tiny price to pay to avoid tossing an entire batch of wafers in the bin. These are built to run 24/7. Just do me a favor: when you’re wiring them in, double-check that your cooling fans can handle the specific wattage of your lamps. If they can’t, that aluminum housing will warp over time, and then you’re back to square one.
